Research and publications
Illouz's research has focused on American foreign policy, international security and security studies, national security and grand strategy, and presidential politics. He is the author or editor of several books, including "Grand Strategy and American Power" (2019), "The Bush Doctrine and the War on Terror" (2007), and "Rethinking American Grand Strategy" (2005). His articles have appeared in numerous journals, including "International Studies Quarterly," "Security Studies," and "The Journal of Politics."
Teaching
Illouz has taught courses on American foreign policy, international security, national security, and presidential politics at the George Washington University. He has also taught at the University of Notre Dame, the University of Tulsa, and the University of California, Berkeley.
Other activities
Illouz has served as a consultant for the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the RAND Corporation. He has also appeared as a commentator on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and other news outlets.

Personal life
Illouz is married to Dr. Nina L. Tannenwald, who is also a Professor of International Affairs at the George Washington University. They have two children.
