Are Rolex Watches Made in Hong Kong? No — Swiss Made Only
Rolex watches are exclusively designed, manufactured, and assembled in Switzerland. The company operates four integrated sites:
- Geneva (Acacias/Plan-les-Ouates): Headquarters, R&D, final assembly, casing, bracelets, quality control.
- Bienne/Biel: Movement production (calibers), escapements, hairsprings (Nivarox).
- Chêne-Bourg: Dial manufacturing, gem-setting.
- Les Acacias (new campus): Consolidating operations; 2024+ phased opening.
Why Not Hong Kong?
- "Swiss Made" legal standard: ≥60% manufacturing costs in Switzerland; final inspection in Switzerland. Rolex exceeds 90%.
- Vertical integration: Rolex controls every component — gold foundry, machining, hairspring alloy, sapphire crystal, ceramics (Cerachrom).
- Hong Kong role: Major distribution hub (Rolex Asia HQ), retail market, and service center — not production.
Counterfeit Warning
Hong Kong (and mainland China) are major sources of fake Rolexes. "Hong Kong made" on a Rolex = counterfeit. Buy only from authorized dealers (list on rolex.com).
