1. Gather the necessary tools and parts. You will need a timing light, a tachometer, a wrench set, and a flywheel remover.
2. Follow the safety precautions outlined in the welder's manual.
3. Park the welder on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
4. Remove the flywheel cover from the engine.
5. Pull on the starting rope to turn the engine over until the spark plug is aligned with the top dead center (TDC) mark on the flywheel.
6. Replace the flywheel cover and reconnect any wires.
7. Connect the timing light to the battery and the spark plug wire.
8. Start the welder and adjust the timing until the spark occurs exactly at the TDC mark on the flywheel.
9. Turn off the welder and confirm the timing setting using a tachometer.
