Cheap Valentine's Getaways

Valentine's Day is the perfect opportunity for couples to take a romantic getaway, whether a short trip to a neighboring town or a cruise. There are many options for saving money, such as looking for package deals and booking far in advance. Researching and scouting out local romantic hot spots can be another option for saving money on Valentine's Day.
  1. Bed-and-Breakfasts

    • Many bed-and-breakfasts provide Valentine's Day packages that offer a variety of services and amenities, such as champagne and strawberries with dinner, couples' massages, horseback riding, Jacuzzi tubs, picnics for two, horse-drawn carriage rides and poetry readings. Valentine's Day specials can start as low as $150 for the weekend. StarGazers Inn and Observatory, Big Bear Lake in California, offers a weekend package for two for $595. The package includes accommodations, champagne and chocolates, naming a star after a loved one, and a star-gazing tour in a rotating observatory. The Cliffside Inn in Newport, Rhode Island, offers a weekend package for $170, which includes a bottle of champagne, artisan chocolates, roses, and organic bath products. For a little more, guests can visit a wine bar or take a wine tour through Rhode Island Wineries.

    Vineyards

    • Locate local vineyards in your area and take a small road trip. Look for places that are "rent by owner" or rentals that offer package deals for the weekend. Base your selection on the type of tours offered, such as make your own wine or do some wine tasting. Vineyards also offer scenic routes and picnic areas. Vineyard tours for two are priced at several hundred dollars and up. Winetour in Portland, Oregon offers a Valentine's Weekend special priced at $172 per person. This private six-hour tour visits three to four wineries and includes a meal at the Underground Cafe. Napa Valley in California boasts many wine caves, such as the Frazier, which offers wine tours, wine tasting and romantic dinners.

    Cruises

    • Choose to take a cruise within the United States. Norwegian Cruise Line offers a seven-day Hawaiian Cruise that visits several of the Hawaiian Islands for around $1,000 per person. Cruises offer dinner, dancing, massages and romantic dinners.
