How to Find a Cheap Student Flight

Students usually manage a low budget but have the chance from more vacations than people who are on full-time employment. Economic limitations and work obligations often do not prevent students from traveling. Travel websites, agencies, airlines and some universities provide offers for them year round. The only requirement is the status of full-time student or under the age of 26.

Look for last minute deals on a specialized website such as STA travel (see Resources). STA offers discounts if you are flexible on dates. It also offers seasonal fares, student group discounts, visa services and travel insurance.

Contact your school to find out if it has a travel adviser department. Columbia, Yale and Georgia State offer services that help students both on their queries when going abroad and finding special deals with airlines. This service may be on or off campus, meaning that the university has a partnership with a travel agent which will offer travel discounts.

Get an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) from the International Student Travel Confederation to benefit from discounts worldwide. Visit istc.org to check current deals and promotions, apply for a card or discover which travel agencies in your city can issue you one. It is valid one year from the date of issue.

Visit the Student Air Travel Association (SATA) website to find out which travel agencies and airlines offer special prices for students and people under 26. Established in 1969 as a nonprofit association, SATA partners with more than 80 airlines and agents. Go to the members section where you can break down the information by countries.
