Kure Beach is a coastal town on North Carolina's Pleasure Island, approximately 25 minutes south of Wilmington. This town is less than 10 minutes driving distance from Carolina Beach State Park, which provides hiking trails and chances for fishing and boating. Kure Beach experienced bombardment from a German U-boat during World War II because it was home to a Ethyl-Dow Chemicals plant. Vacationing can be expensive, but Kure Beach has hotels with cheap room rates.

South Wind Motel is a beachfront hotel that is walking distance from Kure Pier, which facilitates fishing and boating. The hotel has a gift shop. Guest rooms at South Wind Motel include two double-sized beds and cable television, while some of the rooms have a kitchenette with a stove and refrigerator. South Wind Motel is a 20-minute drive from the Fort Fisher State Park. This historic Civil War fort is open for the public to view, and the grounds of Fort Fisher State Park offer trails for hiking and cycling, as well as chances for fishing and boating.
