Fun and Cheap Things to Do in Las Vegas, Nevada

Over the years visiting Las Vegas has become more expensive, and loss leaders like the $2.99 steak and eggs special are often a thing of the past. Now casino/hotels are trying to make as much profit from hotel and dining operations as from their gambling offerings. But you can still find plenty of things to do on a shoestring budget in Sin City.

  1. Wander the Strip

    • The Strip, known by its proper name as Las Vegas Boulevard, is one of the most famous roads in the country, stretching for miles between the most famous casinos in the world. It costs nothing to look, and there is plenty of interesting architecture on this road. Starting from the north and heading south, have a look at these casinos: Wynn, Palazzo, The Venetian, Caesars Palace, Bellagio, Paris, New York-New York, MGM Grand and Luxor.

    Visit Downtown

    • On Fremont Street downtown a four-block canopy features a light show at night. Built in 1994, the same year the street was closed off to traffic and made a pedestrian walkway, the Fremont Street Experience awes patrons every half hour after it's dark. Downtown is also convenient if you want to stop at several casinos because they are smaller and closer together in this area.

    Red Rock Canyon

    • Las Vegas wouldn't be Las Vegas if not for the Red Rock Canyon area, where springs that run out of the nearby mountains provided a watering hole for travelers to this part of the country around the turn of the last century. For $5, you can drive the13-mile scenic drive around the canyon. Hiking opportunities abound, but be sure to bring plenty of water.

    Join Slot Clubs

    • Many properties offer free slot play up to $10 or other bonuses for signing up for players club cards (also called slot clubs) at their casino. You may get additional bonuses if you earn a certain number of points on your card the same day you sign up. Check out Las Vegas advisor (URL listed in reference section) for more information.
