There aren't any other formal hostels within the immediate Galveston area, so you will have to look to the city of Houston for the next closest hostel, which is about a forty-five minute drive away. The Houston International Hostel is located in the museum district of Houston beside downtown. It's near the light rail train, which you could take to Galveston and Crystal Beach in a short day trip. The hostel starts at $17 per night and has common rooms, a kitchen and bunk beds in most rooms. There are private rooms but these are more expensive.

Another Houston Hostel located near downtown Houston, Joie De Vivre is a forty-five minute or more train, bus or car ride to Crystal Beach in Galveston. This hostel is $20 a night and rents cots and couches in a small house. Accommodations include a kitchen with everything you would need to eat and prepare food and drink, a bathroom with a towel and a Security Box for valuables if you feel comfortable leaving them in there. You can also get free Wi-Fi with a two day booking.
