Exotic Animal Tours in Texas

The state of Texas is home to numerous wildlife sanctuaries and preserves, many of which operate as animal sanctuaries and all of which provide a chance to view exotic and sometimes endangered species up-close. Whether you want to view animals from the comfort of your own car or on a tram, you can find the tour of your choice in Texas.

  1. Drive-through Safaris

    • Texas' drive-through safaris offer the chance to encounter alligators, zebras, bison and more from the comfort of your own car. The Topsey Exotic Ranch and Drive Through Safari in Copperas Cove permits feeding the animals from your vehicle. Cherokee Trace, in Jacksonville, permits feeding of the animals if you take the additional behind-the-scenes tour in their own van. A souvenir feeding cup is included.

    Tram Tours

    • If you desire a more guided tour of an exotic animal park or preserve, several of Texas' exotic animal parks provide tram tours. The Exotic Resort Zoo, located in Johnson City, has animals like the greater kudu, eland and North American bison and includes a petting area. Bayou Wildlife Park in Alvin is home to over 50 species of animals, including the endangered white rhinoceros and ring-tail lemur.

    Wild Animal Sanctuaries

    • Animal lovers will want to visit one of Texas' wild animal sanctuaries. These sanctuaries provide a home for orphaned and abandoned wildlife and provide public education in addition to their animal rescue work. The International Exotic Feline Sanctuary in Boyd hosts bobcats, jaguars, leopards, lions, tigers and more and provides guided walking tours. The Exotic Cat Refuge & Wildlife Orphanage in Kirbyville is home to bears and wolves, as well as endangered and exotic cats.

    Camps and More

    • Looking to spend more than just a day touring a wildlife preserve? Texas also has several facilities that provide overnight accommodations. Fossil Rim, in Glen Rose, has campgrounds, bunkhouses available for overnight stays, and luxury lodge accommodations. Overnight visitors can also opt for a guided early-morning tour that includes feeding the animals. Guided tours, meals and drive-through visits are all available. Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch, in Pilot Point, is a non-profit educational ranch with private tours as well as camping for organized groups.
