Who were the first explorers in Nevada?

The first known explorers in Nevada were Spanish explorers who arrived in the region in the 16th century. Among the first Spanish explorers were Francisco Vázquez de Coronado in 1540, and Juan de Oñate in 1598. Both explorers were searching for the fabled Seven Cities of Gold and passed through what is now Nevada on their journeys.
