When malaysians climb Mount Everest?

There were two notable climbs of Mount Everest by Malaysian teams:

1. 1997 Malaysian Everest Expedition

- This marks the first attempt of a Malaysian to scale the world's highest mountain.

- The team was led by M. Magendran, which consisted of two other climbers, Norliana Samsuddin and M. Moorthy

- They reached the South Col but unfortunately turned back due to bad weather.

2. 1998 Malaysian Everest Expedition

- The second Malaysian Everest Expedition reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 27th, 1998

- The team consisted of three climbers, M. Magendran, Ahmad Tarmimi and M. Moorthy (their former team mate in 1997)

- They successfully reached the summit via the South Col route and created history by hoisting the Malaysian flag and playing the Malaysian national anthem, "Negaraku", for the first time at the peak of the iconic mountain.
