Why did Alonso Alvarez de Pineda go on his journey?

Alonso Alvarez de Pineda went on his journey to explore and map the Gulf Coast of North America. He was sent by the Spanish governor of Jamaica, Juan de Esquivel, to find a new route to the Spice Islands.
