Who explored the mississipi river?

The French explorer Jacques Marquette and the French-Canadian explorer Louis Jolliet were the first Europeans to explore the Mississippi River from the Wisconsin River to the mouth of the Arkansas River. They set out from St. Ignace, Michigan, in 1673 and traveled down the Mississippi for about 1,500 miles before turning back.
