Turkey's famous biblical sites include the oldest church in a place formerly known as ancient Smyrna. Now, the city is called Izmir, home to the Church of St. Policarp, according to MTM Holidays in Turkey. The remains of Ephesus houses the house where the Virgin Mary spent her last living days.
Perhaps Egypt's most famed biblical story is that of Moses, who led the Jews out of slavery in Egypt to the Promised Land. Joseph also lived in Egypt as the Pharaoh's dream interpreter. Egyptian biblical tours retrace their footsteps, and as Living Passages, a nonprofit states, Moses and even Jesus probably saw the pyramids. Tours often visit Mt. Sinai and St. Catherine's Monastery at the foot of the mountain.
Some tours operate only in one country or the other, giving travelers a choice of which sites they prefer. Extensive tours of the Holy Land and biblical sites tend to focus on Israel, with time in Egypt, Turkey and Jordan if desired.
