- The Land of the Lotus-Eaters: This is an island where the inhabitants eat a lotus plant that makes them forget their homes and families. Odysseus and his men have to drag them back to their ships to keep them from staying on the island.
- The Land of the Cyclops: This is an island where a one-eyed giant named Polyphemus lives. Odysseus and his men are trapped in Polyphemus' cave, but Odysseus manages to escape by getting Polyphemus drunk and blinding him.
- The Island of Aeolus: This is an island where the wind god Aeolus lives. Aeolus gives Odysseus a bag of winds to help him on his journey, but Odysseus' men open the bag and the winds escape, sending Odysseus and his ships off course.
- The Land of the Laestrygonians: This is an island where a race of giants lives. The Laestrygonians attack Odysseus and his men, sinking many of their ships and killing many of their crew.
- The Island of Circe: This is an island where a beautiful sorceress named Circe lives. Circe turns Odysseus' men into pigs, but Odysseus is able to resist her magic and force her to change them back. Odysseus and his men stay on the island for a year, enjoying Circe's hospitality.
- The Underworld: Odysseus travels to the Underworld to consult with the prophet Tiresias. Tiresias tells Odysseus about his future journey and how to avoid getting lost.
- The Land of the Sirens: This is an island where beautiful sirens sing to sailors, luring them to their deaths on the rocky shores. Odysseus passes by the island and plugs his ears with wax so he can't hear the sirens' voices.
- The Land of Scylla and Charybdis: This is a strait between two monsters. Scylla is a six-headed monster that lives on one side of the strait, and Charybdis is a whirlpool on the other side. Odysseus has to navigate the strait carefully to avoid being eaten by Scylla or sucked in by Charybdis.
- The Island of Calypso: This is an island where the nymph Calypso lives. Calypso falls in love with Odysseus and keeps him on the island for seven years, trying to convince him to stay with her forever. Odysseus eventually leaves Calypso and returns home to Ithaca.
