Historic House Tours of New York City

As New York City recently celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2009, the city has a long and interesting history. Over the centuries, the city has housed a multitude of the rich, famous and powerful, including George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, and was the birthplace of Theodore Roosevelt. Many of the city's historic homes are open to the public year-round. In addition, privately owned historic houses are opened for touring during the year to benefit neighborhood associations.
  1. Historic House Trust of New York City

    • The Historic House Trust has two different historic house tours. One is the self-guided Historic House Passport, in which tourists are issued a book with information on 22 historic homes in New York City's parks. Each page has contact information and data on the site, as well as a space for a passport stamp. The Trust also has a Historic House Festival once a year, usually in mid to late September. The festival is a three-day event and has activities at each of 23 historic homes in all five boroughs of the city. Both the passport and the festival are free of charge.
