Carved directly from the limestone bedrock of the Giza Plateau, it is a monolithic statue—meaning it was sculpted from a single, massive piece of rock. Its sheer size (73 meters long, 20 meters high) and integration with the bedrock make relocation impossible without destruction.

While erosion, sand burial, and restoration efforts have occurred over millennia, the Sphinx has never been transported or reassembled elsewhere. It stands today exactly where ancient Egyptian builders created it, guarding the pyramid complex of Khafre.
