Legal Age: You must be at least 18 years old to get married in Singapore.
Residential Requirements: You or your spouse must be a Singapore citizen, or have permanent resident status (PR status) in Singapore, or have a work pass that allows you to reside in Singapore for at least 183 consecutive days. U.S. citizens who are living in Singapore on an Employment Pass or EntrePass meet the residential requirement.
Documents Required: You will need to provide the following documents to the Registry of Marriages (ROM) in Singapore:
- Your valid U.S. passport
- A certified copy of your birth certificate
- A Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) from the U.S. embassy or consulate in Singapore (attest the U.S. citizenship)
- If you have been previously married, a certified copy of your divorce decree or death certificate of your previous spouse.
Marriage License: Once your documents have been verified and you meet all the requirements, the ROM will issue you a Marriage License. The license is valid for six months from the date of issue.
Solemnization of Marriage: The marriage must be solemnized within six months of the date of issue of the Marriage License. The ceremony can be conducted by a marriage solemniser, such as a priest, rabbi, or an authorized marriage registrar from the ROM.
Registration of Marriage: Within 14 days after the marriage, you must register your marriage with the ROM. You will need to submit the following documents:
- The completed Marriage Solemnization Form
- The original Marriage License
- Two certified copies of your and your spouse's NRICs or passports
- Two passport-sized photographs of each of you
- Payment of the registration fee
After the registration, you will be issued a Marriage Certificate, which is the official proof of your marriage in Singapore.
