New Jersey Lighthouse Cruises

The New Jersey shore is home to almost a dozen historic lighthouses that provide a glimpse into the late 19th and early 20th century lives of seamen and their families. Tours of these lighthouses can be done either on foot or by sea, with many of them being visible only from the water. Lighthouse cruises are available mostly in the late spring and summer months, with some offered on a set cruise schedule and others by charter.
  1. Cape May Whale Watcher Cruises

    • Tour along the coast of Delaware Bay and view lighthouses built in the late 1800s and early 1900s, most of which are on pedestals and out of sight from land. Llighthouse cruises with Cape May Whale Watcher Cruises run monthly from May through September. The first tour of the year, held in May, is a shorter cruise that is actually part of the annual New Jersey Society Lighthouse Challenge that features a 5- to 6-hour trip on water and more tours on land, with each passenger receiving a boat trip souvenir and a light lunch buffet. The Grand Cruise, a 7-hour trip, includes breakfast and lunch as well as all nine of the Delaware Bay lighthouses. Tickets are available online with prices varying slightly depending on the type of cruise--the May trip is under $90 per person with the remaining summer cruises running just under $100. Children under age 6 are free.
