Gunnison Beach is the only legal nude beach in New Jersey. It is in a section of the Sandy Hook Gateway National Seashore.
Find the 2-mile-wide stretch of beach that is reserved for nudists.
This is an extremely popular spot, so expect 5,000 people a day during the week and 8,000 people a day during the weekend.
There are several hotels and motels near the beach, such as the Fairbanks Motel in nearby Sea Bright, the Macintosh in West Long Branch, and the Red Roof Inn in Tinton Falls. Fairbanks is only 5 minutes away. The others are approximately 15 minutes from the beach.
While at Gunnison, you can enjoy viewing the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, the Verrazano Bridge and Manhattan.
The nudist section of Gunnison enjoys police protection and a lifeguard.
Expect to pay a $10 parking fee per day. If you would like a season parking pass, you may pay $50 per car at the gate. You must have a different pass for each vehicle. The entrance fee is waived if you arrive before 7:00 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m.
To reach the beach, travel on the Golden State Parkway to exit 117. You will be on State Rt. 36 south for approximately 12 miles. Just before a drawbridge, you will see a sign that says "Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area, Next Right." Right after the drawbridge, take the exit ramp to the right, which will lead you into the park.
Once you are in the park, go through the area where you pay for parking. Go straight a few miles until you pass a sign that says "Fishing Beach." When you get to the sign, take a hard right. Continue on this road until you come to an area with restrooms and concessions. Go to parking lot area G. After parking, go down the boardwalk and go right at the volleyball nets. You will see signs indicating the clothing optional section of the beach.
