Two Day Train Tours of New York City

New York City is home to some of the nation's most revered tourist attractions and vibrant nightlife. Tourist attractions include museums, clubs, restaurants, theaters, architectural sights, cultural events and historical monuments. A New York City train tour is a great way to experience all the city has to offer. Although finding a tour catered specifically to a two-day itinerary can be a challenge, Amtrak offers a two-day train-cruise combination and avid train lovers can easily stretch out a one-day trip to fit their two-day schedule.
  1. Acela Express

    • The Acela Express travels from Boston, Mass. to New York City to Washington D.C., passing through Westwood, Providence, New London, Trenton, Philadelphia and Baltimore on the way. The seven-hour trip can easily be broken up into two days, with activities in New York City being a central stopping point. Rail travelers can layover in the Big Apple to shop, dine, visit museums, see theater, or take part in any of the other attractions the city offers. A New York Vacation package is offered through Amtrak's Vacations by Rail, which includes two nights in downtown New York hotels.

    Empire Service

    • The Empire Service train tour runs between New York City and Albany, continuing on to Buffalo and Niagara Falls. The trip goes north to the Hudson River Valley through wine country and passes through cities like Depew, Rochester, Syracuse, and Poughkeepsie, and Rensselaer. Vacations by Rails also offers a two-night hotel package through this route.

New York Land and Sea Tour

    • The New York Land and Sea Tour is a two-day package that allows rail enthusiasts to combine their New York City train tour with a New York Waterway 90-minute cruise. The 48-hour pass grants unlimited, "hop-on, hop-off" access to Amtrak's Uptown Loop, Downtown Loop, and Brooklyn Loop, as well as its Night Tour. Attractions on these routes include Central Park, Times Square, Empire State Building, Greenwich Village, Botanic Garden, and the Fulton Museum. The cruise includes the Statue of Liberty, South Street Seaport, and Brooklyn Bridge.

    Washington D.C. Excursion

    • The Washington D.C. Excursion train tour departs New York City and heads to Washington D. C., where visitors receive a 4-hour tour of the capitol city. Sights there include the Lincoln, Vietnam, Korean and Marine Corps Memorials, as well as the Arlington Cemetery's tram to the Tomb of the Unknowns for the Changing of the Guard and the Kennedy Gravesites. From the coach, passengers can view the U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court, House and Senate Office Buildings, FBI Building, White House, and Corcoran Gallery of Art. This train tour is a one-day trip but easily pairs with other New York City activities to make for a two-day excursion.
