Projects Abroad offers several opportunities for volunteers. Six projects are based in the Sacred Valley or Cusco, including opportunities for teaching, culture and community, medicine and healthcare, language, care and sports. Volunteers who are interested in archaeology, expeditions and community work can join Inca Projects, based in Huyro in the La Convencion province. As the primary language spoken is Spanish in these areas, Spanish courses are offered for volunteers who live either with host families within the community or a community house with Projects Abroad staff. Volunteers work Monday through Friday, with the weekends free for exploration. Sessions for volunteering generally last two weeks or one to three months, but volunteers can stay on for extra months if they choose.

To join Projects Abroad, you must apply and pay a fee that includes accommodations, all meals, airport pick-up and drop-off, travel support from staff, as well as full travel and medical insurance. Flight costs are not included, and you are responsible for arranging travel to and from Peru. No qualifications are required to volunteer, and family members or friends can join you without having to volunteer for an additional fee for lodging.

    Global Volunteer Network

    • Volunteers for the Global Volunteer Network are based in Cusco, located near the Sacred Valley and Andes mountain range. The programs include childcare, construction, teaching, conservation and wildlife, healthcare and Andean cultural immersion. Volunteers with the immersion program live with a local family, while others stay in a volunteer house with three people to a room.

Volunteers must apply for these positions. If you are working in healthcare or joining the cultural immersion program, you need to have intermediate Spanish language skills. You must be physically fit if joining the conservation/wildlife or constructions projects. The mandatory program fee includes accommodations, all meals, transportation to and from the airport, salsa lessons, internet usage and a certificate upon completion of the program. You need to have spending money for weekend excursions, shopping, bottled water, travel insurance, flights to and from Peru and daily bus fare to and from the work site. Programs range from one to 24 weeks, and family members and children may join you for an additional fee. Babysitting is provided for a fee.
