How Do I Forward My Fedex Deliveries to My New Address?

Most Federal Express (FedEx) parcels are shipped in one day, though the company offers three-day deliveries at a reduced rate. When a FedEx recipient moves while awaiting delivery, he must request that his package(s) be rerouted to the new address prior to delivery. Such a change will be logged as an address correction and a special handling charge will be applied, unless the parcel is kept on hold at the FedEx distribution center for personal pick up and is in the same city as the recipient.

Instructions

    • 1

Call the FedEx main routing center at 1-800-GoFedEx (1-800-463-3339). When prompted by the automated answering service, say, "More options", until it asks if you would like to speak to a representative, then say, "Representative".

    • 2

Give the representative the account number.

    • 3

Provide the tracking number for the shipment in question.

    • 4

Tell the representative that you request a change of delivery address and provide her with the new address as well as a contact number for the person receiving the package(s).

    • 5

Plan ahead and make this request for all packages currently en route, and be certain that the new address is correct. FedEx will only honor one reroute request per package.

    • 6

Pick up the package at the FedEx distribution center if possible. This may save you from having to pay a special handling fee. Have a photo ID with you; FedEx requires valid identification confirming that the person picking up the parcel is the authorized recipient.

    • 7

Fill out a new shipping order containing the new address as recipient for parcels already delivered to the old address. Once a package is delivered by the courier, it is out of FedEx's hands and you must pay full price to have it picked up and sent to the new address.
