Wildlife at Australia’s Casey Station, Antarctica
No animals permanently reside on the Casey research station itself. However, the surrounding region hosts seasonal visitors:
- Penguins – Adélie and emperor penguins breed nearby.
- Seals – Weddell, crabeater, and leopard seals haul out on sea ice.
- Whales – Minke, humpback, and orca frequent coastal waters in summer.
- Seabirds – Skuas, petrels, and snow petrels nest on nearby islands.
Station personnel follow strict protocols to minimize human impact on this pristine ecosystem.
