Why is Antarctica always snowy?

Antarctica is covered in snow and ice because it is the coldest place on Earth. In fact, the temperature at the South Pole can reach -89 degrees Celsius (-128 degrees Fahrenheit), making it too cold for any snow or ice to melt. Additionally, Antarctica receives very little precipitation, so there is not enough moisture in the air to contribute to snow or ice melt.
