Where did biathlon originate from?

The earliest documented origins of biathlon date back to the 18th century in Scandinavia, where it was practiced as a form of military training. The first recorded civilian biathlon competitions took place in Norway in the early 19th century. The sport was initially known as "ski shooting" or "military patrol", and it was not until the 1950s that the term "biathlon" came into use.
