New England Christmas Family Ski Vacations

The New England area---which includes states such as Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire---offers plenty of opportunities to ski. When it comes to the Christmas period, many resorts put on special events with families in mind, which will keep both adults and kids entertained whether they're on the slopes or not. Most resorts have packages in place for families, which typically include accommodation and ski or event passes.
  1. Santa's Village

    • Santa's Village is a New Hampshire-based extravaganza of all things Christmas, featuring a carousel, the Merry Christmas Ferris Wheel, and greetings by Santa and his wife, at the grotto. Meanwhile, during the Christmas season itself, the Village is lit by magical decorations after dark to ensure a festive atmosphere. The Santa's Village is well-situated for those who want to hit the slopes, with the Attitash Ski Resort found just under an hour's drive away. Attitash offers multiple forms of terrain, with 307 acres available for skiing, as noted by the resort's website.

The Santa's Village doesn't feature accommodation on site, but has partnered with nearby lodging company Santa's Penguin Partners, who offer inns and campgrounds near the Village.

    Wildflower Inn

    • The Wildflower Inn is a family resort found in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. The resort consists of 570 acres, with a family-run, traditional inn providing accommodation and log fires in the evenings.

Visiting families can take advantage of all of the snow-based activities on site---which include sledding and ice skating on a pond---as well as nearby skiing opportunities at Burke Mountain Ski Area, to be found around two miles from the resort. Burke features a ski school, catering towards both beginner skiers who need to learn the ropes, in addition to more able skiers. On the slopes, the beginner's area offers plenty of room for families to get started in a relaxed environment.

By timing their visit for Christmas, families can experience the Wildflower Inn's 'Feel of Fir' package, where each family will get to cut their own tree at the resort's farm, and take it home with them. The package runs from December 10th to the 19th each year. The Inn itself is decked out in festive decorations, too.

    Sugarloaf

    • The Sugarloaf resort, in Maine, takes advantage of the state's plentiful snow fall, and features both expansive skiing facilities and events held at the resort's skiing village. In addition to offering skiing tuition for all ages via its ski school, Sugarloaf provides for young children, as well as a ski camp where kids can meet larger-than-life characters such as Blueberry Bear and Amos the Moose.

The Sugarloaf resort puts plenty of effort into the Christmas period, with family events---running from December 26th to January 1st---including firework displays and parades by torchlight. Packages are available which include both accommodation and ski lift passes, and extras such as spa treatments too.
