The state of New Mexico offers residents and tourists an opportunity to ski on its various mountains. Because the state has warm weather much of the year, the resorts often have to make a lot of their snow during the winter. In addition to skiing, these resorts also have lodging accommodations and dining establishments for guests.
The Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort was founded in 1952 and has the longest ski season in New Mexico. The resort is open from November to April each year. For families with no skiing experience, the resort offers three free skiing lessons to help guide beginners and prepare them for the slopes. There are 41 trails on the mountain, with 20 percent for beginners, 40 percent for intermediate skiers, 24 percent for advanced skiers and 16 percent for experts.
