Camp Sites Near Helen, Georgia

Helen, Georgia, is in White County, approximately 76 miles northeast of Atlanta and 98 miles west of Greenville, South Carolina. The community of Helen is surrounded by natural areas like Unicoi State Park, the Smithgall Woods Dukes Creek Conservation Area and the Chattahoochee National Forest. Visitors to Helen can find numerous camp sites with facilities for both tents and recreational vehicles within 30 minutes of the town.

  1. Enota Mountain Retreat

    • A nonprofit conservation, Enota Mountain Retreat is in Hiawassee, approximately 13 miles from Helen.

      The campground has 47 rental cabins, 100 tent-camping sites and 34 recreational vehicle spots. Some of the pop-up camper and tent sites have water and electricity available, and all feature picnic tables, grills and fire rings.

      The RV sites include three pull-throughs and can accommodate vehicles up to 50 feet long. Full electric, water and sewage hookups are available at every RV campsite and each has its own wooden deck, picnic table, fire-ring and grill.

      Wireless Internet is accessible in the recreational vehicle camping area. The campground offers restrooms, showers, a sewage waste dump, laundry facilities and public phones. An on-site store sells groceries, RV supplies, propane and firewood, and the resort has a restaurant.

      Soapstone Creek flows through the campground for freshwater fishing and swimming. Also on the property are a petting farm, a hot tub, horseshoe pits and a playground.

    Bald Mountain Camping Resort

    • Bald Mountain Camping Resort is around 20 miles from Helen. The campground offers 24 sites for tent-camping and five rental cabins, in addition to 292 recreational vehicle campsites, 138 of which are for overnight stays rather than seasonal or long-term leasing.

      Forty-seven of the RV sites are pull-throughs, and the largest lots are 100 feet long. Each of the short-term RV campsites has full electric, water and sewage hookups, as well as connections for cable television. The tent-camping sites offer no hookups.

      Wireless Internet is accessible throughout the resort. On-site amenities include restrooms, showers, a waste dump and laundry facilities. The campground sells RV supplies, propane, firewood and groceries for campers' convenience.

      Mountain Lake is adjacent to the campground for fishing, and the resort has a ramp and dock for boating. Boat rentals are available for guests. Also located on the property are a swimming pool, shuffleboard courts, horseshoe pits and a playground.

    Unicoi State Park

    • Unicoi State Park and Lodge is located 2 miles east of downtown Helen. The campground offers 33 primitive (no connections) tent-camping sites, as well as 30 rental cabins.

      For recreational vehicle campers, 82 gravel campsites are available, all of which are back-ins that measure 14 feet by 30 feet in size. One dozen campsites have full electric, water and sewage hookups, while the remaining feature only electricity and water.

      The park has restrooms, showers, a sewage waste dump, laundry facility and public telephones. A restaurant is on the property, and the park sells firewood.

      Lake Unicoi, a 53-acre body of water at the park offers non-motor boating, swimming and freshwater fishing permitted. Campers can also use the parks' four tennis courts and playgrounds or explore its 7.5 miles of hiking and 8 miles of cycling trails.

      Unicoi State Park and Lodge remains open year-round. The Georgia Department of National Resources imposes a 14-night maximum length on all stays.
