How to Go Skiing in Bittersweet, Michigan

Located just outside of Otsego, Michigan, in Allegan County, the Bittersweet Ski Area boasts 20 separate trails and a vertical drop of 350 feet. In addition, Bittersweet also has its own dedicated terrain park for snowboarders. Although there are no available accommodations directly on the mountain, there are several attractive options in nearby towns.

      Search for available accommodations through the West Michigan Tourist Association Web site (see Resources below). Reservations for many inexpensive motels and moderately-priced hotels can be made directly online. You can also call the association directly at (616) 245-2217.

      Consider booking a ski and stay package with one of the local hotels. Most packages include lodging at a budget or moderate hotel and two adult ski day passes.

    Organize Your Transportation

      Start your trip by flying into Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is less than 45 miles from Bittersweet Ski Area. Rental cars are available at the airport and the resort is located just up US 131, making Grand Rapids an ideal starting point for long-distance travelers.

      Charter a flight into the Otsego County Airport in Gaylord, Michigan. Conveniently located, the airport is a great alternative for travelers who have the time and money to take a chartered flight.

    Prepare for Your Stay at Bittersweet Ski Area

      Sign up for ski lessons during your trip. Bittersweet Ski Area offers inexpensive ski lessons once per hour. Snowboarding lessons are also offered once an hour.

      Bring your own gloves, hats, goggles and helmet. You can rent skis and snowboards from the Bittersweet lodge, as well as poles and boots, for a small fee.

      Enroll your kids in one of the special children's programs. There are four different programs for children, divided by age and ability.
