Friday is a Working Day in Malaysia; Weekend is Saturday–Sunday

Friday is not a weekend holiday in Malaysia. The standard workweek runs Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday as the weekend.

Exceptions:

  • Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis: These four conservative states observe Friday–Saturday as weekend (work week: Sunday–Thursday). Government offices and many businesses follow this; some private firms align.
  • Johor: Switched to Sat–Sun weekend in 2014 to sync with Singapore.

Federal territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Labuan) and all other states use the Mon–Fri workweek. Muslim employees nationwide get extended Friday lunch break (12:15–2:45 PM) for Jumu'ah prayers.
