Major Manufacturing Zones in Egypt

Egypt's industrial activity clusters in several key corridors, driven by infrastructure, ports, and labor availability:

  1. Greater Cairo & Nile Delta: Cairo, Giza, Qalyubia, Damietta, Port Said. Diverse: textiles, food processing, chemicals, automotive assembly, electronics.
  2. Alexandria Region: Historic industrial base; petrochemicals (Ameriya), refining, textiles, cement, automotive.
  3. Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone): East Port Said, Ain Sokhna, West Port Said, El-Adabiya. Strategic logistics hub; target sectors: shipbuilding, logistics, pharmaceuticals, automotive, green energy.
  4. Upper Egypt (South Valley): Sohag, Assiut, Minya, Qena, Aswan. Growing focus: mining (phosphate, limestone), cement, fertilizers, food processing, supported by new cities (New Assiut, New Qena).
  5. 10th of Ramadan City: Purpose-built industrial city east of Cairo; textiles, engineering, chemicals, plastics, food. Major employer.

Government policy now emphasizes decentralization to Upper Egypt and the SCZone to reduce Cairo congestion and create jobs nationwide.
