Where Do Most People Live in Serbia?

Serbia is predominantly urban: about 56% of the population resides in towns and cities. The largest urban centers are:

  1. Belgrade (capital) – ~1.4 million (metro ~1.7M)
  2. Novi Sad – ~380,000
  3. Niš – ~260,000
  4. Kragujevac – ~180,000
  5. Subotica – ~140,000
  6. Zrenjanin – ~120,000

Rural areas, especially in the south and east, have experienced steady depopulation due to economic migration to cities and abroad.
