Why the Sahara Desert receive more precipitation since located close to an ocean?

The Sahara Desert does not receive more precipitation because it is located close to an ocean. In fact, the Sahara Desert is the hottest and driest desert in the world and receives very little rain. This is because the Sahara is located in the rain shadow of the Atlas Mountains. The Atlas Mountains block the moisture-carrying winds from the Atlantic Ocean from reaching the Sahara. As a result, the Sahara receives only about 1 inch of rain per year.
