How to Visit the Pyramids at Giza

The pyramids of Giza are the only one of the original seven wonders of the ancient world still extant. Accessible only if you visit with a paid guide, the pyramids are one of Egypt's biggest tourist attractions. Giza also hosts many festivals and cultural activities.

      Fly into Cairo, Egypt, which is the closest city to Giza.

      Take a tour bus. The bus with the shortest trip departs from the Hamses Hilton hotel in Cairo.

      Take a cruise up the Nile River. Cruises can be as short or as long as you'd like. Along with the pyramids of Giza, a cruise allows tourists to check out many other ancient sites including, the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut.

      Take part in one of the many festivals and activities in Giza, such as Verdi's Aida, an opera performed right in front of the pyramid each October.

      Join the Pharaoh's Rally, an 11-day motor race that takes place near the pyramids, also in October.

      Go inside the pyramids. Limited groups of 150 people at a time are allowed inside the pyramid to explore the hidden rooms and caverns.
