What is Giza famous for?

Giza is a city in Egypt, located on the west bank of the Nile River, approximately 20 kilometres southwest of Cairo. It is most famous for being the site of the Giza Necropolis, which includes the three Great Pyramids of Giza – the Pyramid of Khufu (also known as the Great Pyramid), the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure.

These magnificent structures, built as tombs for the pharaohs, are among the largest and oldest surviving examples of ancient architecture in the world and were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. Additionally, the Great Sphinx, an iconic limestone statue in the form of a mythical creature with a lion's body and a human head, is also located in Giza and is equally celebrated for its historical and archaeological significance.
