Chauhan are rajputs or mair rajput?

Chauhan is one of the largest Rajput clans of India, and one of the most prominent groups among the thirty-six royal clans of the early medieval period. The Chauhans ruled various regions of Rajasthan and parts of neighbouring states between 7th and 12th centuries. They are now found mainly in the regions of Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi, and are considered one of the eminent royal lineages in India. They claim to be Mair Rajputs, descendants of the ancient Kshatriya warrior clan of the Solar Dynasty.
