Saudi Arabia's Dry Port: Riyadh Dry Port (King Khalid International Airport)

Saudi Arabia's primary dry port (inland customs depot) is the Riyadh Dry Port, located adjacent to King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in northern Riyadh.

Function

  • Customs-bonded facility: Imported goods can be stored, inspected, and cleared inland — decongesting Jeddah Islamic Port (seaport) and Dammam King Abdulaziz Port.
  • Multimodal: Direct rail link (Saudi Railways — "North–South Line" & "East Line") connects to ports. Trucking to/from Riyadh metro.
  • Services: Warehousing, container yard, customs clearance, valuation, inspection (SASO, SFDA), freight forwarding, consolidation, re-export.
  • Free Zone benefits: Duty deferral/exemption for re-export, manufacturing inputs.

Other Dry Ports / Inland Clearance Centers

  • Jeddah Dry Port (near Jeddah Islamic Port) — smaller, port-adjacent.
  • Dammam Dry Port (near King Abdulaziz Port) — serves Eastern Province.
  • Future: Planned dry ports at NEOM, Jazan, Madinah under National Industrial Development & Logistics Program (NIDLP).

Strategic Role

Riyadh Dry Port is the logistics heart of the Central Region — enabling just-in-time manufacturing (automotive, pharma, electronics in Riyadh's industrial cities) and e-commerce fulfillment for the capital's 7M+ residents. Part of Vision 2030's logistics hub ambition (target: top 10 LPI).
