Who organized and oversaw the demilitarization of Japan?

The Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers (SCAP) was responsible for overseeing the demilitarization of Japan during and after World War II. General Douglas MacArthur served as its commanding general from its inception on 2 September 1945 until the end of the American occupation of Japan on 28 April 1952. SCAP oversaw the destruction and dismantling of industries producing and supporting military matériel.
