How to Find Okinawa's Best Tourist Spots

Okinawa is an island prefecture that is part of Japan and located in the Ryukyu Islands chain. With its warm climate and beautiful island scenery, Okinawa has long been a popular vacation destination for mainland Japanese tourists and people from the rest of the world. One of the main draws of the island is the many beaches. If you are planning to take a trip to Okinawa in the future, here are some of your best options.

      Go to the Zakimi Castle Ruins. This castle was established in the fifteenth century, and overlooks Okinawa's western coast. In 1422, Gosamaru, Lord of the Yamada castle, built Zakimi Castle after destroying Yamada Castle. The stone of Yamada Castle was used to create Zakimi Castle. With its arch entrance and limestone structure, these castle ruins are intriguing and fascinating.

      Visit Sefa Utaki. This is perhaps Okinawa's most notable and famous sacred site. Overlooking the Chinen Peninsula, Sefa Utaki is believed to have been made by legendary creator Amamikiyo. It serves as a sacred area for praying while facing the island of gods, Kudaka.

      Check out the Tamaudun Royal Mausoleum. This Mausoleum was established in 1501 for the kings of the Second Sho Dynasty. Built into natural rock, the mausoleum appears to be constructed out of wood from the outside view. One of the most distinguishable features of the Tamaudun are the "shisa," the "lion dog" shaped statues that are right above the mausoleum, in order to provide protection for the tombs.

      Explore downtown Naha. Naha is Okinawa's capital city and is a very busy and modern area. With bustling Kokusai Street's many shops and restaurants and the lively Makishi Public Market, visitors will never be at a loss for things to do and items to purchase. Be sure to check out Heiwa Street and all of the shops selling beautiful Tsuboya pottery.

      Relax on Eef Beach on Kume Island. This island is home to many gorgeous beaches, including the famous Eef Beach. There are a lot of resort-style activities and attractions here, including windsurfing and jet-skiing. Visitors can arrive at Kume Island by ferry or airplane from the capital city of Naha.
