A Packing List for Cuba

Approximately two million tourists visit the island of Cuba each year, according to USA Cuba Travel. There are several sightseeing opportunities for tourists, including Cuba's beaches and mountain ranges. When traveling to Cuba, it is important to pack appropriate clothing, identification, your passport, visa and a number of other personal items. You can not travel from the United States to Cuba unless you are a Cuban-American, visiting Cuba for research purposes, a politician or a journalist.
  1. Identification

    • You will need to bring a piece of identification with your photo, such as a driver's license and your passport and visa. Keep these items with you at all times and keep a photo copy of each of these documents in your suitcase. If you are traveling from the United States, remember that Cuba does not accept credit cards from U.S. citizens. Bring U.S. currency or traveler's checks instead. Don't forget to bring your airplane, cruise or water taxi ticket. Bring a pouch that connects around your neck for identification cards. Keep the pouch underneath your shirt.

    Travel Necessities

    • Cuba is humid and sunny, so remember to bring plenty of sun block, insect repellent, aloe vera cream and itch-relief cream. Prepare for minor illnesses by bringing anti-motion sickness medicine, antacids, antihistamines, pain killers and a small first aid kit. Cubans speak Spanish, so if you do not know this language, bring a book that translates your language to Spanish. Electricity in Cuba frequently goes out, so bring a small travel flashlight and batteries.

    Personal Items

    • Pack clothes appropriate for the hot weather, but remember to bring nice outfits for going out at night. Some clubs in Cuba do not allow shorts, so bring pants or a skirt. Bring a lightweight jacket in case the temperature drops. Pack a few bathing suits, cover ups, sunglasses and flip flops. Bring comfortable walking shoes and one nice pair of shoes for going dancing or out to dinner. Don't forget necessities such as hair styling products, shaving cream, razors, soap, deodorant, female hygiene items, fingernail clippers, dental floss, toothbrush and toothpaste.
