How to Pack a Military Duffle Bag

Whether heading off to boot camp or going on a trip, the military duffel bag is an excellent holder for your gear. Military duffel bags are top-loading, stand-up canvas bags with reinforced shoulder straps. These bags are made not only for durability, but also to be able to hold everything a soldier needs for boot camp. Instructions

    • 1

Lay the items you will be packing out on one large surface.

    • 2

Place toiletries and items smaller than the size of your fist in plastic bags or a small toiletries bag.

    • 3
Pack shoes at the bottom of your bag.

Form a solid foundation by packing shoes and other heavy, solid items at the bottom of your bag.

    • 4

Roll socks and underwear into balls, and place them inside your shoes. Set any that will not fit to the side.

    • 5

Roll your clothes, rather than fold them, and pack them tightly into your duffel bag. Use remaining socks and underwear to fill in any gaps, creating a tighter fit. Pack heavy items into the center for more even weight distribution.

    • 6
Use books and magazines as an outer shell.

Slip any books or magazines down the sides to create a shell around your clothing.

    • 7

Pack toiletries and any other items you may need to access quickly at the top of your bag.

    • 8

Zip up the side or hook the opening so that it is closed.
