Backup your data on a thumb drive or other storage device. Change the passwords on your laptop to prevent thieves from accessing the contents.

    • 2

Charge your laptop battery completely before the flight. You'll most likely operate your laptop using your laptop battery as most seats don't have available power supplies. Confirm with your airline whether you need to bring a special voltage adapter to use the plane's power supply.

Pack your laptop in a checkpoint-friendly bag. This is a bag that allows the laptop to lie flat on the X-ray conveyor belt with nothing on top or underneath, thus allowing you to keep your laptop inside the bag during the inspection. Examples of checkpoint-friendly bags are laptop sleeves, butterfly bags that open into two halves and soft-sided trifold bags. If you don't have a checkpoint-friendly bag, you'll have to remove your laptop from its bag during inspection.

Pack all your laptop accessories like power cords, mouses and thumb drives in a different bag. To minimize security delays, pack your laptop in its own bag or sleeve. That way you'll be able to speedily extract the laptop for the X-ray scan.

Combine your laptop bag and your accessory bag together into one carry-on bag after you pass through security. This will make boarding the plane simpler and more convenient.
