Packing List for Travel to Reno, NV

Picturesque Reno, Nevada is the self-proclaimed "biggest little city in the world." The downtown is relatively small and most attractions are within walking distance. Once known solely as a gambling town, there are many outdoor activities to lure visitors thanks to the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains and stunning Lake Tahoe. There are also plenty of active nightlife activities. This list will help you play your cards right, as you pack for your trip to Reno no matter what time of year you visit.
  1. The Standards

    • Hotels can provide the essentials.

As with any trip, you'll want to bring your necessary toiletries to Reno. Bring any medications you need. Always pack a few extra days worth in case you miss your flight, have a canceled flight, have car trouble, get ill or just extend your trip because the gambling is so much fun.

There are ATM machines in all the local casinos in case you run short on cash. Comfortable shoes are a must, as walking is the transportation of choice for many tourists. Bring a camera to capture the mountain scenery.

    Warm Months

    • Established in 1934, Washoe County Golf Course is Nevada's oldest course.

Unlike Las Vegas, its sweltering desert sister city, Reno temperatures only climb above 90 degrees between June and August. Sunglasses, a hat, a swimsuit and sunscreen are musts. Keep in mind that casinos are often kept at cool temperatures, so dressing in layers is often necessary even in the warmer summer months.

Bring an extra bag or day pack for trips to the pool or for outings. You can use that bag later for souvenirs if necessary. If you are a golfer, bring your clubs; there are 12 golf courses within Reno's city limits.

    Cold Months

    • Ski by day, play slots by night.

Bring your skis or snowboard equipment in the winter months. Pack your snow clothes, warm hat, mittens and thick socks. Don't forgo packing your bathing suit just because it's chilly, a whirlpool tub is the perfect end to a great day in the mountains.

    Nightlife

    • Make reservations early to ensure a reservation at a top restaurant.

There is an active nightlife in Reno even if you are not hitting the casinos. You may want to bring a dressy outfit if you plan on going to a show, club, concert, exhibit, comedy review or dine at a fancy restaurant. And don't forget to bring gambling money.
