Three Day Travel Packing List

It's tempting to bring a suitcase full of clothing, shoes and toiletries when traveling, but don't overpack for a three-day trip. Bring only the essentials and select mix-and-match outfits that can be worn multiple times. You'll only be away for three days, after all, and anything you forget can likely be purchased at your destination.
  1. Clothing

    • Pack one outfit for each day of your trip. If you're traveling with children, pack a couple of extra outfits for them in case of mishaps. Bring a dress, skirt or slacks and a dress shirt if you plan on a night out on the town or will be attending business meetings. Pack a swimsuit if you'll be visiting a warm climate or your hotel has an indoor pool. Even if the temperatures aren't expected to be cool, a light sweatshirt or jacket comes in handy for chilly restaurants or planes. Don't forget underwear, socks and pajamas.

    Shoes and Accessories

    • Consider your activities when packing shoes; you may be able to wear the same pair all three days. If you're traveling on business or going to an upscale restaurant or a theater, include a pair of heels or dress shoes. Pack sandals or flip flops for warm weather destinations and warm boots for cold climates. Pack accessories such as sunglasses, hats, scarves and gloves, depending on the location and your plans.

    Toiletries

    • Don't forget prescription medications. A small first aid kit with bandages, antibiotic ointment and pain reliever comes in handy for emergencies. If you are staying at a hotel or visiting loved ones, skip packing your own toiletries and take advantage of those available at your destination. Otherwise, purchase the essentials such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant and sunscreen in travel-sized containers. If you have children, pack diapers, wipes and other necessities.

    Travel Necessities

    • Print all travel confirmations or tickets in advance including hotel, flight or rental car reservations. If you're driving, bring directions to your destination, a local map or a GPS. Don't forget passports or other identification. If you're traveling for pleasure, pack a guide book, camera, extra memory card or film. An umbrella or rain poncho is handy in case of bad weather and plastic bags are useful for wet or dirty clothing. Bring a few small toys or games to keep children occupied while traveling and books or crossword puzzles for adults.
