Packing List for a Seven Day Beach Trip

Packing for a week-long beach vacation can be daunting. With the costs associated with checking luggage at the airport or limited space to place your luggage in the car, the problem you face is what to pack: you don't want to pack too much but you don't want to pack too little either. Create a packing checklist prior to your vacation; consider the weather, your destination and what you plan on doing while you're on vacation and you'll find yourself less likely to forget anything or pack too much.
  1. Beach Attire

    • A week at the beach means bathing suits. One won't do for a week of sun and sand; two or three are better so that you'll always have a dry suit to wear when your other is damp. Pack flip flops and bathing suit cover-ups to wear. These are necessities during meals; most restaurants -- even on the beach -- require you wear shoes and a cover-up when dining.

    Dining Attire

    • Though the beach is a laid back place to vacation, restaurants near the coast may require that patrons dress appropriately. Even if your dining plans don't include five star restaurants you still need appropriate attire. Men should bring shorts and T-shirts, khaki pants and polo shirts or suits and ties depending on where you want to eat. For women, sundresses, Capri pants, skirts and cocktail dresses will cover any range of restaurant selection. Include a wrap for chilly evenings and shoes to match your dinner outfits. Pack enough dinner-appropriate outfits to last seven days.

    Sightseeing Attire

    • Even though the beach is the biggest draw on your vacation you'll undoubtedly want to spend time sightseeing or shopping, which means you'll want comfortable shoes and clothes. Shorts, sundresses, tank tops, Capri pants or jeans are appropriate for both activities. If you're staying near the beach for these activities you can put your bathing suit on under a sundress or shorts and a shirt, slip on a pair of flip flops and be on your way. Pack enough of these outfits to last a week; one for every day is plenty.

    Essentials

    • Other than clothing and shoes you need to pack your toiletries. Of course you need to pack your toothbrush but if you forget you can easily purchase a new one. Things you can't easily purchase while away from home are new contact lenses or prescription glasses if you forget yours. Prescription drugs, flat irons, cell phone chargers and your camera also need to go in your luggage. A checkbook, credit cards and cash are a must. Don't forget your driver's license or photo ID and if you are flying to the beach you need to bring your boarding pass with you. Sunscreen is a must for the beach. Bring your favorite magazines or reading material for the beach and any surfboards, snorkels, scuba equipment and beach balls that will entertain you and your family while playing in the surf.
