In 2010, a team of international researchers announced the discovery of a new hominin species in northern Thailand. The species, named Homo luzonensis, is believed to have lived between 50,000 and 67,000 years ago. The discovery of Homo luzonensis is significant because it suggests that there were multiple species of hominins living in Southeast Asia during the Pleistocene epoch. This discovery also provides new evidence about the evolution of humans and the dispersal of our ancestors out of Africa.
