How to Figure Yen to Dollars

In mid-April, 2011, one Japanese yen was worth approximately 1.2 cents. But the currencies' values change continuously, so each time you wish to convert between them, you must check the latest foreign exchange rates. Online conversion tools will take care of the math for you. Note, however, that individual banks and travel agencies will almost always offer you fewer dollars per yen than the converter suggests.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the currency converter from the first link in "Resources."

    • 2

Type "JPY" in the first "Type a country or currency" box. Select "Japanese Yen (JPY)" from the drop-down menu.

    • 3

Type "USD" in the second "Type a country or currency" box. Select "United States Dollar (USD)" from the drop-down menu.

    • 4

Type the number of yen you want to convert in the box next to the "¥" symbol, which stands for "yen." The dollar equivalent will automatically appear in the box next to the "$" symbol.
