Bars in Sukhumvit, Bangkok

Bangkok is filled with an exciting, cosmopolitan nightlife, according to Bangkok.com. Sukhumvit is one of the longest streets located in the Central Business District of Bangkok, according to ThailandTravelers.com, and is known for its drinking, dancing and debauchery. It is made up of smaller, connecting streets, known as sois. Most bars stay open until 1 a.m. or later and most offer live music, pool tables or other forms of entertainment. Though the list of bars in Sukhumvit is significant, a few bars are more notorious than others.
  1. Bully's Bar

    • Bully's Bar is the ideal place for tourists who plan on spending a hefty amount of cash for their fun. More upscale and expensive than other bars in the area, Bully's Bar offers a sporty ambiance with constant air-conditioning, which is uncommon in Bangkok, several TVs and four pool tables. The menu is most known for its western and Thai dishes.

    Bus Stop

    • Bus Stop is a casual, calm bar located in the midst of Nana Plaza, which is Sukhumvit's red-light district filled with clubs, and neon lights. This bar opens to a serene garden and is a great place to relax and reenergize from the clubs around it. Although "bar girls" do hang out here, Bangkok.com states that they are not aggressive in trying to sell themselves and are happy to just converse.

    Cheap Charlies

    • Cheap Charlies is known for its affordable drinks and its odd décor. From the outside, Cheap Charlies looks like a small wooden shack located in a narrow soi that would be considered a residential alley in America. Inside, the décor includes animal skulls, tribal masks and clever signs. People often visit Cheap Charlies for affordable drinks before moving onto clubs and pricier bars.

    The Bull's Head

    • The Bull's Head is a favorite with tourists because it's like visiting England in the heart of Bangkok. This bar offers a wide range of British food favorites, along with Thai dishes famous in Bangkok. The downstairs is mostly drinkers and the upper level is mainly those there for a meal. Because of the mixture of culture, tourists and locals come together here to enjoy each other's company and food dishes.

    Witch's Tavern

    • Witch's Tavern is popular among tourists and locals because of its wide range of specials offered all week long. The pup provides a menu of Thai dishes and Western dishes, mostly British dishes, and the upscale décor is pleasing to the eye. Live music is provided every night, Wednesday night is free drink night for females from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and happy hours are available every night with 30 percent off dishes.
