Gay Bars in India

The gay culture is relatively new to India. Until recently, gay culture was unacceptable and discriminated against. On July 2, 2009, the Delhi High Court decriminalized homosexuality, calling such discrimination unconstitutional and a violation of the fundamental right of freedom and liberty.

Since then, the metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bangalore have seen a burst of pulsating gay nightlife. There aren’t many exclusive gay bars and clubs; however most upmarket bars and clubs have designated gay nights during the regular business week.
